This heavy weight Chinese porcelain jar was stamped below that it was made during the Qing Dynasty's reign of Emperor Kangxi (Year 1661 - 1722). The yellowish colored jar has drawings that show several butterfly motifs amongst the many watermelon fruits. The usage of the jar with cover lid was believed to be made for the storage purposes of dried or pickled melons or other fruits.
Front View - Height 12 inches
Side view shows the undetachable hook.
The jar's diameter is 11 inches.
The red hook seems to be out of place on the nice jar.
ReplyDeleteThe 2 hooks were attached for beautification only. I just spent a minute to imagine its design without hooks and realised it could become a fat vase instead of a covered jar as it is now.
ReplyDelete**Just like a long blouse will look like a mini skirt dress if one doesn't wear pants below.
It does look fat doesn't it.
