This old wrought irons are very heavy and good for pressing clothes!
In the olden days, our grandmas placed hot burning charcoals inside here to heat up before pressing the clothes.
I often wondered which country invented these wrought irons? They come in many shapes and have been used in many parts of Asia for centuries.
my grandparents used to have this kind of iron in their kampung house, i don't know where is it now,
ReplyDeleteThey are very valuable now!! Look out for it.
DeleteI think I have this one at home. My father also a part-time antiques collector. Later go back check-check
ReplyDeleteThey are selling for RM300-400 each in Melaka today!
DeleteDid you buy this old iron? My attention is caught by the colourful piece of cloth beneath the iron. I see colourful chicken on that cloth. What cloth is that?
ReplyDeleteYes I bought this iron for about RM30 in the 80s. Now it is selling at RM330-400.
DeleteIn Thailand's village flea markets, they sell so many funny shaped old irons at around RM10-30 today. I will grab them if I see those vendors again as I missed the opportunity when I was traveling with a hurried group.
I was at the Taipei Airport when I picked up this thick copy of CNY Zodiac Book which was talking about the coming Lunar New Year which was chicken year. I was surprised to see all the pages inside were fantastic drawing prints of Chicken motifs and art. This book is actually useless to me now as I am not even born in the Chicken year. I used the page as a background for my photo shoot to make it lively and interesting. Now you just gave me an idea to blog the pages in my Twilight Zone and this blog. It is a very rare book that only comes out yearly before each Lunar New Year in Taiwan.
DeleteI thought it was a piece of cloth when it was a piece of paper. Would be interesting to see the other chicken pictures.
DeleteMy mom has one of this. Really heavy!
