3 Tier Chinese Baskets

These 2 traditional Chinese Baskets were made in China for the ceremonial occasions to carry special food and delicacies during the auspicious functions to commemorate the birthdays, weddings and religious festivals.

They were made from the finest pressed bamboo strips and painted in traditional Red & Black lacquer coatings with gold design floral patterns lining around each tier of the basket trays.

  1. Hi, are these baskets mass produced in China?

  2. Hello Nina. I would say that these baskets have been mass produced in China since thousand years ago till today. The newer ones are more for tourism purposes as these traditional baskets are not widely used in China anymore today. The shapes and designs of the old & new baskets have much difference.

    Have a good day.

    1. All these baskets are at least 80-100 years old. They have terribly faded with time, no shines and brittle to break easily as clearly seen in above photos. One belonged to my best friend's grandma who has passed away long ago.

The modern ones today are so shiny in bright red colours with tougher materials used. The Tai Kum Cheh could even swing & toss it onto the floor without scratch.

    2. So old! You must be really taking good care of them for them not to break.
