This is a very rare and unique serving bowl that comes with a plate on top. This Blue & White porcelain bowls were believe to be produced during the Ming Dynasty.

The plates are in the 2nd photo? No photos of the bowls and plates together side by side?
ReplyDeleteThese bowls are tricky looking and made me confused in bewilderment.
DeleteIt was made exactly as you see like a plate being stuck on top of the bowl
but it is one piece alone by itself. I have no idea what it was used for.
It is definitely a plate on top and the bowl below does not serve its function at all.
Please tell me if I have successfully explained this funny piece??? LOL
Yes, your explanation is very clear. I get it now. I guess it is hollow between the plate on top and the bowl bottom. It cannot be solid because that would be a waste of material. So the space in the middle is wasted because it cannot be used. Aha, I thought of a use for this. Use this bowl if one wants to pretend to be eating a huge bowl of rice but the rice is only a little on top of the plate. :D
